Water – Learn it! Live it! (Water-LiLi) is a joint initiative of South East Water, City West Water and Yarra Valley Water. It consists of a suite of educational materials for teachers of prep to Year 10, including a curriculum resource, professional learning and an accreditation program. This initiative can assist schools to complete the water module within the ResourceSmart AuSSI Vic framework.
The Water-LiLi curriculum resource has a variety of activities, lessons and case studies for the classroom. Topics covered include the natural and urban water cycles, alternative water supplies, water use and water efficiency. This resource is mapped against the current Victorian curriculum and is easily integrated into the classroom.
The Water-LiLi accreditation program is a voluntary and FREE program that acknowledges primary and secondary schools’ positive attitudes and actions towards water. By working through a series of milestones, schools achieve a bronze, silver or gold accreditation.
Since the program began in 2005, over 320 schools have signed up across Metropolitan Melbourne, 100 of which are in South East Water’s region.
Schools are recognised for their efforts with a celebration, framed certificate, buckets for under the drinking taps and ‘goodies’ for the school.
Water – Learn it! Live it! runs a metro professional learning day each year. This day brings teachers with an interest in water education together to learn, share and be inspired. South East Water also runs smaller professional learning sessions during the year.
